Japanese Lacquered Suzuribako

Exceptional suzuribako in hira maki-e, taka maki-e and hedatsu gold, silver and red lacquer of a bubbling waterfall amidst a pine forest. The interior of the lid features five cranes, three in flight and two on the ground, in a landscape of pine trees bordering a river. The interior in nashi-ji lacquer decorated with rushes on the edge of a river in gold and silver lacquer includes a silver engraved suiteki (dropper) and a suzuri (inkstone). The originality of this suzuribako, besides the very rich quality of its decor, lies in its rounded edges.
