Ryoshibako

 

Rectangular box in ro-iro lacquer, decorated with plum blossom and        stylized spiraling tendrils in golden lacquer hiramaki-e. It includes a tray in hirame lacquer.

Plum blossom (ume) blooms at the end of winter and announces the        arrival of spring. It symbolizes harmony and hope. A Japanese festival, Ume Matsuri, celebrates plum ume’s blossoming every year.
