Small Japanese Field Mouse

Bronze sculpture of a small Japanese field mouse (Apodemus argenteus), called in Japanese himenezumi (姫鼠 or ヒメネズミ). It is a rodent of the family Muridae, endemic to Japan.

It is on a bitter cucumber, also called margose or in Japanese niga-uri. Native to East Asia, it is a climbing vegetable plant of the Cucurbitaceae family. It is known for its preventive and therapeutic properties: anti-diabetic, antioxidant, anti-cancerous among others.
