Suzuribako - Japan - Meiji


Suzuribako (writing box), the lid decorated at the outside with a decoration of a bush warbler (uguisu) perched on a prunus tree above a bamboo grove in gold and silver maki-e lacquer.
The inside of both lid and box with sprinkled gold lacquer (nashi-ji), the lid also with a roundel depicting crysanthemus and susuki grass in gold, silver and red maki-e lacquer. Urushi in fan shapped, ink-stone.
