Impressive bronze sculpture forming an incense burner and depicting a kingfisher resting on a leaf. The kingfisher, recognizable by its brilliant plumage, is also known for its agility and precision. Its ability to plunge swiftly into the water to seize its prey has made it associated with opportunity and with grasping it decisively at the right moment. In Japan in particular, it is a symbol of good luck, and its image was used to ward off evil spirits. In Chinese mythology, it is a symbol of good fortune and is believed to bring prosperity and a happy marriage.
