WOODEN BONSAI TRAY

Reference: 2024-1237

Decorative tray made from knotty burl wood with a dark brown patina, designed to support a bonsai tree.

The bonsai (bonzai) is a tree planted in a pot, symbolising harmony and peace. First introduced in Egypt, it was in China during the Han dynasty (206-220) that the aesthetic aspect of bonsai became increasingly important. A symbol of the harmonious cycle between man and nature, the idea was to recreate a miniature natural landscape. Adopted by Buddhist monks, the bonsai cup is thought to have been introduced to Japan during the Heian era (794-1185). Zen and Taoist precepts linking spirituality and aesthetics refined and refined this practice in the name of simple beauty. To enhance the bonsai, it can be placed on a tray of this type.
