The figure of the monkey with the peaches of longevity is a popular image from China, however this subject was also very much used by the Japanese. According to the legend, the monkey Sunh, king of the monkeys, upset because he was not invited to the banquet of the Queen Mother, entered the garden of the goddess Xiwangmu, in the mountains of Kun Lun, and ate all the celestial peaches that she grew there. He became immortal.
