LARGE KAIOKE SHELL BOXES PAIR – MEIJI

Two large eight-sided kaioke boxes in black lacquer, decorated with mon and maple leaves in golden lacquer.

 

These are usually octagonal boxes containing the painted shells used in the game of kai awase (shell association). These boxes contain two sets of one hundred and eighty shells, each decorated with a different painting. The game consists of putting two shells together to form a famous poem.
