Tabako-hire, also known as portative tobacco smoking set, realized in bamboo and exotic hard wood. The pipe itself is made using a sturdy and long bamboo shaft that has been drilled so the bud can be used as the furnace, the small box used as tobacco container is sculpted in the form of an inro. Because of the kimonos not having pockets, everyday life items were hung in the belt in various little boxescalled sagemono. During the Edoperiod this habit was already widespread but when tobacco consumption became popularthe two ideas mixed and became one to turn the smoking sets into fashion objects thatemphasize social status.
