Decorative vase in chased bronze with brown patina, in the shape of an elongated squash, decorated with long branched stems fitted with branching tendrils, leaves and sculpted buds.

 This small vase was intended to decorate the tokonoma ((床の間), an alcove typical of traditional Japanese houses with raised floors covered with tatami mats, in which decorative objects and works of art of various natures are displayed, such as prints, plants, vases, okimonos… Appeared at the end of the Muromachi era, in the 16th century, in tea houses, the tokonoma began to integrate palaces before being adopted by the majority of the population in the 17th century , becoming an essential element of the Japanese interior.
