PAIR OF BRONZE SNAILS, MASU – MEIJI

A pair of snails in bronze with a dark brown patina, representing two snails out of their shells. A symbol of eternity and fertility, the snail was considered in ancient Japan to be the deity of water. The Japanese believed that the deity dwelt in a pond in the form of a gigantic snail.

Below, the mark of « Masu » (ます).
